In 2018, more than 4.5 million children in the United States have been diagnosed with a mental disorder.
Statistics has shown that mental disorders are a common problem among children and that children are more likely to have problems in school, at home, and with friends.
So what can you do as a parent and how can you help your child tackle these problems in daily activities?
The first step is to come forward about the issue. if you think a child has a mental health problem, talk to them about it.
Encourage children to express their feelings and talk about problems. This can be done through engaging them in some activities, like pretend play games, drawing and doodling, story telling amongst few.
1 in every 5 children have a mental disorder that affects their ability to function at home, in school, and even with their peers. Mostly because of lack of understanding and awareness parents are not able to understand if there is an actual problem or not.
The most common founds studies shown are that:
- parents not knowing how to deal with their children’s problems
- parents are not aware of the signs of mental health issues
- parents are not sure if their children are having mental health problems
Speaking things out loud releases the negative energy spikes, one can go for counselling sessions but in case you are not open to it, you should try playing with your kids.
Play is essential for children’s development since it contributes to their cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being. It also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children. Despite the benefits derived from play for both children and parents, time for free play has been markedly reduced for some children.
